While surfing this weekend (the internet that is) I discovered a dope brand hailing from East Asia: IISE. (How many times did you try pronouncing that before you gave up?) The name means ‘second generation’ in Korean. IISE, which is based and produced in South Korea, originally started out as an accessories company. Its only fair that they be lauded for this first. By the the way I used to make handbags and backpacks at a small family-owned factory on Madison Avenue and East 33rd Street for about three years back in college. I kid you not–I used to leave there high everyday from the glue that we used to assemble the bags. (I can remember the smell right now as I write this post.) I say this to let you know I have some expertise in leather goods.
Back to IISE! The SS16 accessories line consists of backpacks, pouches, card holders, and weekender bags. The most prominent material used in the crafting of these goods is goat leather with a coated cotton lining. Designs are clean and minimal which blends well with their ready-to-wear collection. This word is probably overused, but ‘modern’ is the vibe I get from the collection. Not that these silhouettes are anything new, but IISE has put their own interpretation on it, which emulates a Korean aesthetic (duh). The collection presents an array of goods ranging from cropped pants, crew neck sweaters, bomber jackets, fishtail parkas to many other cool pieces. The color palette correlates with their accessories, ranging from black to white, olive to clay (didn’t know that was a color), etc. which helps give the collection that modern vibe.
Take a peep at some more shots below of the collection, and if you like what you see, head over to their website at ii-se.co to cop something new and fresh. If you’re in the NYC area, you can stop by Steven Alan in TriBeCa, Chelsea and a few other neighborhoods throughout the city to check them out.
